Remember getting lost in a mall? 😵 Who Hasn’t? I have way too many times.
In my 16 years in retail real estate, I’ve seen many malls struggle because they tried to do too much.
They are sometimes so over-engineered that they end up being more of a maze than a marketplace.
More often than not, we need to rethink this approach and go minimalist:
𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀
→ When people can find what they need quickly, they’re more likely to return.
𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆
→ Minimalist designs highlight individual brands better and each store gets the spotlight it deserves ✨
𝗘𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲
→ When shoppers feel good, they spend more time and money. 💸
𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆
→ Sustainable designs are not just good for the planet, but also for business. 🌍
I personally find Mercato Shopping Mall, Dubai (featured in images) a great example of the above principles. I am a Raving Fan of this mall I’ve been going to for decades.
Many of the most successful centers use the 𝗞𝗜𝗦𝗦 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲: 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗜𝘁 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 & 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲
